AJG purchases workers’ comp MGA Atlas

AJ Gallagher has acquired San Diego-based managing general agency Atlas General Insurance Services for an undisclosed sum.

Atlas specializes in workers’ comp and specialty property programs and is led by an executive team that includes Mike Mathews and Charles Lasher. It was founded in 2009 by Bill Trzos.

Following the deal, the company’s leadership team will remain in place and report to Joel Cavaness, who is president of AJG’s US wholesale brokerage division, Risk Placement Services.

The transaction follows AJG’s purchase last month of Floridian broker Harden and Associates, a regional agency with a particular focus on the healthcare, real estate and construction agencies.

Commenting on the Atlas acquisition, AJG CEO and chairman Pat Gallagher said: "Atlas is a highly regarded program administrator that brings RPS deep market expertise, a complementary book of business and a best-in-class workers comp platform."

"We are delighted to welcome Mike, Charles and their associates to our growing global team,” he added.

Speaking on a second quarter earnings call last year, AJG CEO Pat Gallagher said the company had a strong M&A pipeline, which at the time consisted of transactions representing about $300mn in revenue.
