Washington state insurance commissioner bans ‘discriminatory’ credit scoring

Washington state has banned the use of customer credit scores to underwrite auto, renters and homeowners insurance, in a move that aims to combat “discriminatory pricing,” officials said today.

The move is being introduced following restrictions on credit score reporting by financial services companies contained within the 2020 federal Covid-19 relief law, the Cares Act.
