Swiss Re puts 2020 insured losses up 41% at $89bn

Swiss Re’s latest Sigma report has revealed that global insured losses last year rose 41% to $89bn, making 2020 the fifth-costliest year since the carrier’s records began in 1970.

The figure compares with $63bn in 2019 and a 10-year average of $79bn.

Natural catastrophes caused global economic losses of $190bn, of which $81bn were insured.
