The Hartford agrees to $650mn abuse settlement with Boy Scouts of America

The Hartford has agreed to pay the Boy Scouts of America $650mn to cover the cost of historic child abuse claims against the organization, in a move that will cause the carrier to set aside a $225mn unfavorable development charge for Q1.

The Boy Scouts of America declared bankruptcy in April 2020, beginning a tortuous Chapter 11 bankruptcy process that has pitted tens of thousands of victims of sexual abuse against insurers.
