New York DFS fines National Securities Corporation $3mn over cybersecurity failures

The New York Department of Financial Services (DFS) has fined National Securities Corporation (NSC) $3mn for four cyber security breaches that the regulator says exposed a “substantial” amount of confidential customer data.

Announcing the action last week, the DFS said an investigation found that NSC had been hit with four cyber breaches between 2018 and 2020, and that the company had failed to report two out of the four incidents.
