RenRe grew its property business by 33% and by 29% in its casualty and specialty division in the first quarter, but fell to a $36mn underwriting loss after the reinsurer was hit with $180mn in claims from winter storm Uri.

The Bermuda-based company reported $0.09 in operating income per share for the quarter Wednesday, down from the $0.76 the company earned last year, and behind the $0.49
