South African competition tribunal conditionally approves Aon-Willis merger

The Competition Tribunal of South Africa has approved the proposed $30bn merger of Aon and Willis Towers Watson if the parties meet certain conditions, including the divestment of Willis Re and its corporate and commercial short-term insurance broking (CRB) operations in the country.

To meet these conditions, the tribunal said Willis or the merged entity must offload assets including Willis Re and its South African CRB operations to AJ Gallagher or an alternative purchaser.
