Attorney General Merrick B Garland hailed the termination of the $30bn mega-merger between Aon and Willis Towers Watson as “a victory for American businesses.”

In a statement, Garland argued that the decision will help preserve competition in the insurance brokerage sector in the US, as the deal would have consolidated the industry’s “Big Three” into a Big Two.
