San Francisco-based cyber MGA Coalition said on Tuesday that the average size of ransomware demands surged 170% in the first half of 2021 to $1.2mn from last year, as part of a larger upswing in cybercrime, exacerbated by vulnerabilities exposed during the pandemic.

The findings were included in Coalition’s latest cyber state of the market report, which demonstrated a sharp rise in both cyber claims frequency and severity.
