Donegal Insurance Group's operating profits fell 28.7% to $16mn in the second quarter of 2021, driven by an increase in the loss ratio, as the US economy reopened, lifting claims frequency and severity.

The carrier’s annualized return on equity fell 7.1 points to 12%, while its combined ratio worsened by 3.8% points to 96.1%.
