Chubb underwriting income jumps 57% despite $1.2bn in cats

Chubb grew underwriting income by more than 57% in the third quarter to $617mn, benefitting from higher earned premiums, lower expenses and accelerating favorable development, which more than offset higher catastrophe losses and a modestly weaker underlying loss ratio.

On Tuesday, the carrier said it earned $2.64 per share in operating income, up 32% from a year ago, handily beating analysts’ $2.20-per-share
