Bermuda-based start-up (re)insurer Vantage Group Holdings has named Axa XL executive Alex Blanco as CEO of insurance.

Blanco is an industry veteran with more than two decades in the business, most recently serving as Axa XL’s CUO for specialty in the Americas.

He previously served as CUO for professional E&O and cyber insurance at XL Insurance, and as a managing director of XL Group prior to Axa’s acquisition of the company in 2018.

Blanco’s hire is the latest move for Greg Hendrick-led Vantage in building out its insurance business.

The company recruited Jason Lamonica from Axa XL last month to lead its entry into the construction market and hired Sompo International’s Denise Watkins to run its excess casualty and healthcare business out of Bermuda.

Vantage CEO Hendrick said: “We are very excited for Alex to lead our talented and growing insurance team at Vantage. His exceptional underwriting acumen, proven leadership ability and informed insights will provide great value as we build out our insurance offerings to address the increasingly complex needs of our clients.”

Axa XL has seen a stream of departures in the past few months. In addition to Blanco and Lamonica, senior cyber executive John Coletti departed the underwriter’s insurance division in September to lead

In August, ProSight tapped Axa’s Chris Dougherty, who was chief executive of ceded reinsurance and alternative capital, as its CUO

In July, The Hartford lured Carrie Brodzinski, then Axa XL’s global head of underwriting management, to become its global CUO for specialty business.
