Berkshire Hathaway Specialty promotes Beltran to Global Property SVP
Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance has promoted industry veteran Carlos Beltran to senior vice president, global property underwriting officer.
Beltran joined BHSI in 2018, as a vice president property underwriting manager for the Middle East Region, based in Dubai. Since 2020, the executive has served as head of first party lines for Asia based in Singapore.
For his new role, the Colombian executive will relocate from Singapore to the US.
Commenting on Beltran’s appointment, Dean LaPierre, BHSI’s chief underwriting officer for property & marine lines, said: “As our property portfolio continues to grow, we are expanding the leadership that oversees our disciplined, long-term approach to underwriting around the globe.”
“Carlos has exceptional experience and expertise accumulated over more than 24 years in the global property insurance market,” LaPierre added.
Before joining BHSI, Beltran worked for almost 16 years at Chubb, where he held several roles including regional underwriter for Latin American property lines, Latam regional head of placement & facultative reinsurance, and vice president for Latam P&C underwriting operations.
Beltran also worked at Aon for over two years, as a property and energy broker in his native Colombia. The executive began his career in the insurance industry as a tech lines underwriter at Colseguros.
Beltran’s promotion was the latest appointment in a series of staff changes that BHSI has executed in recent months, most of them in its professional and financial lines.
In March, the company hired Keith Freid, a former AIG underwriter, as its new product line officer for private and non-profit management liability insurance.
