American Family Insurance Group has donated $50,000 in support of Waukesha, Wisconsin, after an SUV intentionally drove into a Waukesha Christmas parade, killing five and injuring dozens.

The carrier’s donation was directed to a fund created by the United Way Milwaukee & Waukesha County, Waukesha Education Foundation and the Waukesha County Community Foundation to assist those who need help following the tragedy.

American Family said in a statement that it has many customers, employees and agency owners in Waukesha, and it will “continue to monitor the situation in support of the entire community”.

“We are shocked and deeply saddened by Sunday’s horrific tragedy in Waukesha, Wisconsin, and our hearts and thoughts are with the community and all those personally affected by this event,” the carrier said.

According to local reports, a red SUV broke through the Christmas parade barriers last Sunday, in the Milwaukee suburb of Waukesha, intentionally running over the crowd at a high-speed.

"At this time, we can confirm that five people are deceased and over 40 are injured," a statement from the City of Wisconsin said. "However, these numbers may change as we collect additional information."
