US prices near four-decade high as November inflation accelerates 6.8%

The US annual inflation rate accelerated at its fastest pace in 39 years after rising 6.8% in November from 6.2% in October as energy, food and used vehicles costs soared.

The inflation rate neared the 7.1% high registered in June 1982, when oil shocks drove prices higher despite the intervention of the Federal Reserve.
