Global reinsurance capital up 8.4% in 2021 to $728bn: Gallagher Re

Total dedicated reinsurance capital rose by 8.4% to $728bn in 2021, thanks to a rebound in investment returns, improved carrier earnings and an increase in alternative capital, according to Gallagher Re.

As the broker published its 2021 reinsurance market report, Gallagher Re managing director of strategic and financial analytics Brian Shea said reinsurers also retained more of their earnings, with less paid to shareholders than in previous years.
