Allstate pegs March cat losses at $227mn, discloses large adverse reserve development

Allstate has pegged its estimated pre-tax catastrophe losses at $227mn for March, with six events, primarily the tornado in Texas and the southeast, estimated at $246mn but partially offset by favorable reserve re-estimates for prior events. 

Cat losses for the first quarter totaled $462mn before tax.

The company also announced it will begin disclosing quarterly non-cat prior year reserve re-estimates (favorable or unfavorable), as inflationary trends continue to adversely impact both current and prior year incurred...
