Markel book value dips 4%, GWP growth holds at 21%

Richmond-based specialty carrier Markel’s book value per share decreased 4% sequentially to $995.53 per share, falling 6% short of analyst estimates of $1055.28 per share.

The company’s compound book value annual growth stagnated sequentially at 10% in Q1 2022. For comparison, as of December 31, the compound annual growth for the past five years in book value per share was 11%.
