Chubb 1.4 treaty switch leaves last year’s reinsurers on risk for Ukraine tail

Chubb enacted a “run-off” clause ahead of its April 1 renewal to shift its 2021-22 specialty treaty from a losses-occurring to a risk-attaching basis, leaving reinsurers on the program on risk for Ukraine losses, this publication can reveal.

In addition, sources said the carrier was able to secure new coverage for the year from April 1, but it was forced to split its coverage into separate treaties as the composite specialty reinsurance market retreated.
