Ecuadorian bribery case aims for December trial in Florida

The corruption and money laundering trial accusing American insurance executive Esteban Merlo of paying bribes to officials at Ecuador’s state-owned insurers Seguros Sucre and Seguros Rocafuerte to “obtain and retain” reinsurance business is set to begin in December in Miami.

Earlier this week, in a joint motion reviewed by Inside P&C, the parties asked the judge to postpone to December the two-week trial, which was scheduled to start on September 12, and to extend the deadline for pre-trial motions.
