The broad ~$20bn range in Hurricane Ian loss estimates, from $40bn to $60bn, reflects the loading being added for litigated claims and social inflation and will have a major influence on trapped capital and the post-event rebuild, said Hudson Structured Capital Management managing partner Michael Millette.

“That $20bn swing is social inflation – it's not about mistakes in quantitative modelling,” the ILS manager said during a panel debate at the Convergence conference held by ILS Bermuda.
