Cat losses of $125bn in 2022 fourth-highest on record: Swiss Re

Insurance losses from natural catastrophes hit $125bn in 2022, covering around 45% of $275bn in economic losses, according to Swiss Re’s Sigma report.

The reinsurer said the insured losses were the fourth-highest on record and had helped to contribute to catastrophe reinsurance rates rising to 20-year highs at the 1 January renewals.
