Florida reinsurance buyers have been hard at work on renewals well in advance of the June 1 start to the hurricane season this year, as fears that the January 1 hard market would drive a lock-up in capacity appear to be easing. 

But with ongoing problems in sourcing low-tier reinsurance capacity and a further significant uptick in rates expected to build on last year’s gains, increased reinsurance spending will once again be a major challenge to poorly capitalized domestic carriers.
