Allstate underwriting income jumps 23% to $1.6bn in Q1, cats climb to $590mn

Allstate P&C underwriting profits grew by 23% in the first quarter, even as catastrophe losses rose to $590mn from $211mn the year before.

Operating income across the entire company hit $6.11 a share in the quarter, almost double the $3.73 a share the carrier earned a year earlier.
