US about to chalk up ‘remarkable’ eight-year stretch with no EF5 tornadoes: BMS

On Thursday, the US record for the longest period without a recorded EF5 tornado will be broken, BMS meteorologist Andy Siffert notes.

It will be eight years since the last observed EF5 tornado killed 24 people and caused $1.3bn of damage in Newcastle, Oklahoma.
