Old Republic triples GI underwriting profit as CoR falls 4.4 points to 94%

Underwriting profits at the general insurance unit for Chicago-based specialty carrier Old Republic more than tripled in the second quarter, growing to $52mn from $13mn last year, while the GI business also grew net written premiums by 13%, its strongest growth print in some time.

The company reported $0.73 a share in net income on Thursday, advancing on the $0.42 a share the company earned a year ago, and ahead of the $0.53
