James River Q1 CoR improves to 97.4% as E&S profit offsets casualty re losses

James River decreased its Q1 combined ratio by almost 102 points to 97.4% as improvements in the excess and surplus (E&S) business offset a deterioration in the specialty admitted and casualty reinsurance divisions.

The firm’s E&S CoR decreased 149 points to 83.7% while the casualty re CoR rose 17.2 points to 122.5%,
