Hartford CEO Swift expects rate reacceleration amid inflation, changing weather patterns

Rates will need to rise, and in some cases reaccelerate in the near-to-medium term, as carriers deal with elevated inflation, reduced economic output and changing weather patterns that drive increased frequency and severity, according to The Hartford CEO and chairman Chris Swift.

“The Hartford is committed to maintaining price discipline, and we have clearly communicated to all our underwriters the need to expand or maintain our margins, excluding workers' comp, while prudently growing our book of business,” Swift said.
