North America has dominated natural disaster global statistics in 2022 due to Hurricane Ian, Munich Re said, adding that the storm caused around half of disaster-related insured losses worldwide last year.

In its latest report, the reinsurer noted that natural disasters through North America destroyed assets worth around $150bn, of which roughly $90bn were insured.
