The two-act banking crisis that unfolded in March and April generated fears for the insurance sector from asset portfolio hits and D&O/E&O losses, as well as the indirect income from the macroeconomic shock.

However, in fact, the sector’s biggest Achilles heel was arguably a relatively low-profile part of the US surety market that would in the eventuality of deposit defaults have generated a multi-billion insured loss.
