The convective storms that swept the Midwestern and Southeastern US from late March could be a “multibillion dollar” event in terms of industry losses, on top of a record first quarter of severe weather events, according to cat modelers.

Tornados started in western Mississippi on March 24, eventually knocking out the power of more than 80,000 homes and businesses across Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee.
